High School Planning
Schedule Changes & Exceptions
Students, parents and/or guardians are encouraged to review the Schedule Change Policy & Request Form. Many requests for schedule changes will not be honored following course registration. Students are encouraged to make thoughtful scheduling decisions when entering course selections in the Spring. Please see your school counselor before scheduling classes if you have questions or would like individual guidance regarding course selections. Applications for special scheduling circumstances can be found below and in the student services office.
cum laude academic achievement recognition
To qualify for Cum Laude or higher, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and have earned a minimum of 24 honor points (Laude Calculation Sheet). It is our belief that this system will be more fair and recognize of a wider range of students. Under the Laude system, students must meet the two criteria above. Once a student meets these requirements, they can earn one of the following distinctions:
-
Cum Laude (with honor/distinction) 24-39 honor points
-
Magna Cum Laude (with great honor/distinction) 40-55 honor points
-
Summa Cum Laude (with highest honor/distinction) 56 + honor points or more
Beginning with the Class of 2027, the requirements for Laude distinctions will change. This is due to the increased opportunities for students to take courses that award Laude points. To Qualify for Cum Laude or Higher: A student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and have earned a minimum of thirty-two (32) honor points.
- Cum Laude (with honor/distinction) - 32-51 honor points
- Magna Cum Laude (with great honor/distinction) - 52-71 honor points
- Summa Cum Laude (with highest honor/distinction) - 72 honor points or more
Early Graduation
It is the belief of the educators of this school that, in most cases, the students will receive the greatest benefit from attending high school for a full four years. However, many senior students will complete basic requirements for graduation prior to the final trimester of their senior year. The Board of Education has made provisions for possible early graduation in a few of these cases. If such a request seems to be in the best interest of the student, please follow the procedures for making this request: Early Graduation Application.
Applications must be completed and turned in to Student Services by April 1st of junior year for students planning to graduate after the completion of 1st trimester and October 1st of senior year for students planning to graduate after the completion of 2nd trimester.
